2025 NCYC Junior Sailing Travel Race Team
North Cove Yacht Club is pleased to offer our Junior Sailing Travel team program. The NCYC junior travel team is designed to provide participants with opportunities to compete at yacht clubs across Easter CT and RI. These events are sanctioned by the Easter Connecticut Sailing Association (ECSA) and are highly attended. Sailors will have the chance to sail against 20-50 other boats!
The NCYC junior race team is designed to provide participants with racing instruction including strategies and tactics and is geared towards sailors who want to learn to race or improve their racing skills. Sailors will receive personalized coaching from our NCYC race coaches. There is an Opti and a Club 420 race class.
Any sailor who participates in at least one sailing session at North Cove Yacht Club this summer will get a 10% discount on Race Team fees. Reach out to Amy Vinciguerra, the Junior Sailing Program Director, at northcovejuniorsailing@gmail.com to get the discount code!
Come join the NCYC Jr. Travel team to one of our local events. NCYC will be traveling to Pettipaug Yacht Club in Essex on Saturday August 2nd. Traveling to an event includes packing up boats to bring to Essex. A travel regatta is an ALL DAY event. Parents should help pack up boats on Friday August 1st at 3:30. Parents will need to transport rudders and daggerboards to the event.
$20 covers coaching fees to North Cove. We will have three coaches attending the event. One coach will be on each of the courses sailed. Coaches will help set up boats the morning of August 2nd, provide on the water safety and coaching, then help pack up boats to return to North Cove.
Parents are encouraged to stay and watch the races. Pettipaug has a great waterfront view of the sailing. Their lawn is perfect to bring chairs and blankets and set up for a picnic lunch. If there is inclement weather, parents may be needed on shore to quickly pack up and leave early.
There are three groups racing at Pettipaug, 420s, Intermediate Optis (RWB), and Beginner Optis (Green fleet). Use this link to register with Pettipaug for the event https://theclubspot.com/regatta/aXMeZWE0Iu
When registering with Pettipaug, “TBD” can be filled in for sail number and boat name. 420s are registered as a team. The skipper’s parents begin the registration, then the parents are the crew will be sent a link to finish the registration. First, second, and third place teams are awarded. Optis are registered individually. Ages 10 and under are the WHITE fleet, Ages 11-12 are the BLUE fleet, Ages 13-16 are the RED fleet. First, second, and third place are awarded in each fleet. If this is your very first regatta, you should register for the GREEN fleet which is the beginner fleet. In the GREEN fleet all sailors are awarded and no scores are calculated.
